Last Few Days In California

Went on an epic hike the last Saturday in California. Probably one of the coolest days I have had in a long time.

The trail we hiked is called Pacific Crest and it's a pretty famous trail. The guy from the movie "Into The Wild" hikes a section of it in the movie.

The view was absolutely amazing and it really felt like Indians or Cowboys could pop out at any time and start a gunfight!

Jono and myself playing cards at the ocean the second night before I left. The sunset was incredible!

Yogurtland!

This is a great little Yogurt place in California (went there a few times). They have a wide selection of flavors, all of which are super tasty! You grab a tub and then go pour your own Yogurt at one of these machines...

...then move over to the toppings...

...after that it should look more or less like this.... so good!

If you think that's not a lot just look how deep the tubs are!

Best part... its really affordable. My tub cost me about $3 (R21)

Best Wallet Ever

Simplicity is something that I really appreciate in design. My sister (love you sis) gave me this really top notch wallet for Christmas last year. It forces me to only carry the essentials (credit card, medical aid card, drivers license and one or two others and a little bit of cash). I love it because it's really small and I hardly feel it in my pocket.

My only problem with it is that if your card on the top isn't very strong it gets a bit damaged but I discovered that my movie card is super strong so I put it first and it protects all the other cards.

Go check it out. I highly recommend it! www.matblac.com

Thrice is and has been one of my favourite bands for a long time now. In an age where most music is about greed, lust and pride Thrice stand out singing songs filled with truth and integrity (and maintain a large international following). Stoked I got to see them live a few weeks ago (and potentially could have seen them again for free but didn't find out in time : (
Here are a few lyric snippets from some of my favorite songs.

The Weight

And storms will surely come,
But true love is a choice you must make and you are the one.
That I have set my heart to choose
As long as I live, I swear I’ll see this through.

Come what may, I won’t abandon you or leave you behind,
Because love is a loyalty sworn, not a burning for a moment.
Come what may, I will be standing right here by your side,
I won’t run away, though the storm’s getting worse and I see no end.

Circles

The scenery spins; We call it progress,
But I’ve seen this all before;
When all’s said and done, we’ll wake up on the floor.

We set sail with no fixed star in sight.
We drive by braille and candlelight.

The Artist In The Ambulance

Look around and you'll see that at times it feels like no one really cares
It gets me down but I'm still gonna try to do what's right,
I know that there's a difference between sleight of hand
and giving everything you have
There's a line drawn in the sand, I'm working up the will to cross it
and I hope that I will never let you down
I know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sound.

Of Dust And Nations

Saturn will not sleep, until the sand has made us clean
still we stack our stones and bury what we can
but it all will be undone, and nothing built under the sun
will ever stand before the endless march of sand

so put your faith in more than steel
don't store your treasures up, with moth and rust
where thieves break in and steal
pull the fangs from out your heel
we live in but a shadow of the real

Summer Camp

Jono and Simone invited me to join them for a week on summer camp. Was a really fun time and it was everything I imagined an American summer camp would be.

The camp was in the mountains about an hour from their house. This was the view around the cabins.

The cabin that I stayed in. It was super bling on the inside and had a good wood cabin smell.

The camp felt like a small town from 60 years ago. The "town center" had these cool little stores. This was the malt shop that made amazing milkshakes.

Playing basketball with the guys. They were really good!

Something that amazed me was the drinks dispenser in the dinning hall. The hall was open pretty much all day and you could just come in here and pour yourself as much hot chocolate, fruit juice or soda as you want.

Every day we would do some activities. Had lots of fun on the pool day.

Real Life Mario Cart

This climbing wall was so fun. When you got to the top you hooked up to a zip line and flew down the other side

Paintball day. Jono and the guys made it a tradition to buy suits at thrift stores before the camp and dress up. It really intimidates the competition and looks pretty cool when you have your mask and gun.

The crew on the last day after our last big event.
